So I haven't been very good about writing here or in my journal. So I guess I better start with both. And since I got a new phone (😊 yippee!) it's a lot easier to post! So summers long gone and junior year is almost halfway done! Time sure does fly and it seems as though it was just yesterday that I was sitting at efy listening to Brother Durant's devotionals. I miss EFY so much it's insane!! I miss the people, well the people that weren't in my company besides a select few that is. And just the vibe. School is completely different. It's like a huge reality check.
We had efy for a day a few weekends ago and that was real fun too. It wasn't the same but it was still super fun. I raked leaves with a lot of other groups and even though our service seemed so minimal I still felt so good afterwords. On the train ride back me, Ben, Logan, and another person in my stake sat together and just had a really good time. The dance was so fun but jenn wasn't there because she was all like "I have a party. I'm too cool for you guys ✌" we still had a lot of fun! They played gangam style but put parts of sandstorm in to substitute "sexy" which I thought was totally pointless.
Then last Saturday my uncle Brett flew down to the east coast from st. George, UT and came with us down to New York City to help with the Mormon helping hands hurricane sandy relief. We did so much but it was so little compared to what still needs to be done. The first house we went to, their basement had flooded and it absolutely reeked! We had to bleach the basement down and clean the surfaces. They had a random toilet just out in the open! Everything was covered in mud from the flooding. Our job with bleaching it was to prevent molding because eventually the untreated molding in the houses will become toxic and the families can no longer live in the houses. The second house we went to we had to completely gut. I'm talking completely rip apart to the frame. We were with my Uncle Adam's stake that came all the way from Maryland! Uncle Adam was ripping the floor boards off like it was his job! It was difficult work and the guy who owned the house was probably a hoarder but it still felt so good to just help him. In a lot of the areas you could visibly see the water line from where the flooding rose too. It was insane! There were so many yellow Mormon helping hands jerseys all over It was so cool to see 😊. One lady came up to us and asked if we could get her hot food because she was medically unable to herself. It was so neat and I definitely want to go back down there while I still can!
I stayed home today and yesterday because I've been sick. Yesterday, the1st ward, 2nd ward, and Marlboro ward missionaries came over to sew their pants. It was like a little missionary party at my house! It was so funny because elder Morris totally knew what he was doing with the sewing machine. And elder shim came up to my mom and asked if there were any house chores he could do. Elder Thorne from Marlboro remembered me from the chicken party in August! It was wicked funny.
Well goodnight ❤
